WHAT IS FAMILY GIVING?
The PA’s Annual Fund Drive, Powered By Parents, supports critical resources and programs that make MSC one of the most unique, high-performing public K-8 schools in the city. Powered By Parents is our biggest annual fundraiser, underwriting 55% of our programs.

WHY DOES A PUBLIC SCHOOL NEED TO FUNDRAISE?

The NYC Department of Education budget is designed to meet the minimal fundamental needs of our students. While MSC Teachers and Administrators work diligently to make the most of their budgets, the PA steps in to fund the majority of enrichment resources that elevate and define every student’s education, helping transform them into lifelong learners. 

For the 2023-24 school year, the PA will spend $450 per student.

HOW MUCH SHOULD YOU DONATE?

• We are targeting $450 per student based on the parent-approved budget; however, all gifts are greatly valued and appreciated, whether they are $50 or $5,000! We understand families are able to donate at different levels.

• We ask families who find themselves in a position to be more generous to think about donating to support other students. 

• All donation amounts are kept confidential.

Here are three ways to maximize your gift:

1. Find out if your employer offers a corporate match. Check with your HR department or ask the Family Giving Committee (cotreasurer@friendsofmsc.org) to ask for you.

2. Seek extended family giving by sharing the DONATE page with grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and close family friends for contributions of any size on behalf of our students.

3. Remember that your talent and time count as much as your financial gift. Send an email to any member of the Executive Board if you are willing to write a grant or organize a fundraising event to expand your family’s contribution.
